What a comeback!

If Pete Sampras is called Pistol Pete,
If Becker is called Boom Boom Boris,
If Federer is called a phenomenon happening once a lifetime,
What would you call Andre Agassi?
I would call him Andre the Phoenix.

Man!, what a match he played yesterday against James Blake. I didnt follow scores until I reached home like 11:45 in the night. Agassi was winning the fourth set and the momentum was with him. I started to see the match unknowing of the breathtaking moments that are going to unfold. Agassi started off the fifth set well but suddenly Blake found his rhythm back and went up 4-2. Soon it was 5-3 Blake serving to win the match and upset the people's champion. He is 35 years old, he is playing for the 20th consecutive US open, still in the top 10 players in the men's circuit (and you know men's circuit is x50 times competitive than women's) and what a situation for him to come back and prove his detractors that he still possesses the mettle to go to the final of a grand slam. (I think with Federer's aurathese days, everyone now dreams only to be in the final, not go beyond that :)

Agassi broke back at 5-3 and what a game it was. The touch drop shot, the stunning return of serve and the overhead top-spin lob still remains etched in my memory. And what is a feast without a mouth-watering desert? The tie-break was played on equal footing and both of them didnt give up an inch. Atlast it was more of the experience and the big-match play of Agassi that pulled him to the win than anything else.

I think Agassi is rightly said as having the best ever return of serve. Sometimes his returns are faster than the serves itself and you wouldnt want to be on the other side of the net when he does that.

And a word for Blake too - He definitely played very well, looked powerful, court coverage was great but looked flat in big points.
Hats off Andre! It was a stunner of a match that I saw in recent times.
Hope Federer falls in the other-half and you will have a more realistic chance of winning the US Open one more time.
